St Gerardine Nursery inspection report published
Happy, confident, and independent children at St Gerardine Nursery have received high praise from Education Scotland in their recent inspection report.
The inspectors commended the nursery staff for creating a supportive environment that helps children settle quickly and build respectful relationships.
Staff were also praised for offering a wide range of learning opportunities in the playroom. They work closely with parents and value each child’s individual needs and abilities.
By monitoring children’s progress, staff were able to identify what they were interested in and plan activities that motivated them, helping the children make good progress in their learning and development.
The inspection focused on two quality indicators: learning, teaching and assessment and securing children’s progress. Both were rated as ‘good,’ showing that the nursery provides a high standard of service and supports positive outcomes for the children.
However, the report highlighted a few areas of improvement. Inspectors suggested that staff should refine assessing children’s learning by using their observations more effectively to shape plans and activities. Staff were also encouraged to find more opportunities for children to apply and develop new skills.
To ensure continued progress, the inspectors recommended implementing new methods to track children’s learning over time. They further advised that the manager should work closely with staff to better document the progress children make during their time at the nursery.
St Gerardine Nursery’s Manager, Michelle Johnson, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our team and children for this positive inspection report. It reflects the hard work, dedication, and care that our team puts into creating a nurturing and engaging environment for all children. We welcome the inspectors’ feedback and are committed to building on our success by refining our assessment processes and further supporting children’s learning and development.”
Moray Council’s Chief Education Officer, Vivienne Cross, added: “This report highlights the positive work being done at St Gerardine Nursery to support children’s learning and wellbeing. The staff’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment is evident, and it’s encouraging to see children making great progress. We’ve already started working with the nursery as they implement the recommended improvements to further enhance the quality of education and care provided.”
