St Gerardine Primary School raises over £1,300 for Poppy Scotland

St Gerardine Primary School in Lossiemouth had done an incredible job raising money for Poppy Scotland through a fun and energetic Bounceathon event.

The idea was sparked after a visit from Poppy Scotland’s mobile museum. During the visit, pupils learned about how poppies are made and the way Poppy Scotland supports the military community. Inspired by the visit, pupils were eager to contribute and decided to organise a fundraising event through their Dandelion Groups.

The Dandelion Groups, which include children from military families, set themselves a challenge to complete 200 laps of the playground on space hoppers, generously provided by Poppy Scotland’s local representative. When unexpected snowy weather forced the event indoors to the school’s PE hall, the target was increased to 400 laps.

Throughout the week, every year group joined in, and together they met their target and then some. By the end of the week, pupils had completed a whopping 1,063 laps - equivalent to 27.7 miles. Their hard work raised over £1,300 for Poppy Scotland, which will go towards supporting military families across the country.

St Gerardine’s Head Teacher, Claire Johnson, said: “I’m very proud of our children and the whole school community for their enthusiasm and hard work during the Bounceathon. It was wonderful to see everyone working together for such an important cause. I’d like to give a special thank you to Katie Bromham for her incredible effort in managing the entire fundraising event. Raising over £1,300 for Poppy Scotland is an amazing achievement, and I want to thank everyone who helped make it possible.”

Huge congratulations to St Gerardine primary for this astounding feat!
