Successful year for Moray’s Active Schools and Community Sports Hub programmes
A decision made last year to extend Moray’s Active Schools and Community Sports Hub programmes for a further four years, has proved highly successful.
The extension of the programme, which included a partnership with Sportscotland, saw a significant improvement from the 2021/22 academic year. Participation from Moray schools increased by 7% and participants increased by 822. There were 7,106 free sessions delivered, up from 3,227 previously, and 95% of all activities were delivered by volunteers, an increase from 91%. Additionally, £17,850 of external funding was sourced by the Active Schools team to increase resource for projects such as Young Leaders and ASN activities.
Across the 2022/23 academic year, the Active Schools team continued to make significant process, working towards outcomes in the Sportscotland Sport for Life strategy, Moray Council’s Corporate Plan, Children Services Plan, as well as the Local Outcome Improvement Plan.
The next year will focus on bridging the gap between male and female participation, increasing the number of secondary school pupils taking part, and improving the number of school to community club links. A continued focus on working with pupils with additional support needs will also be prioritised.
Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “It’s clear that engagement with the active schools and community sports hub programmes is up from last year. We can’t ignore the hard work from the team to create this improvement and I’m excited to see how they continue to progress over this next year.”
