Team Scotland swimmer to visit Moray schools
Pupils at four Moray primary schools are to receive coaching from a Team Scotland swimmer, just weeks before the Commonwealth Games return to Glasgow.
Tom Beeley will visit Aberlour, Cluny, Mortlach and Portessie Primary Schools to host fun fitness circuits and motivational sessions on Friday 5 and Friday 12 June.
The events are being held as part of the Great Athletes programme, which brings elite level competitors into schools to encourage children to be active and develop a love of sport.
Tom began swimming competitively after moving to Scotland as a child and went on to specialise in the 200m butterfly. Alongside his swimming career, he has also developed a passion for sailing and now coaches young swimmers to help inspire the next generation of athletes.
Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “It’s fantastic that pupils at these schools will have the opportunity to meet and learn from a top Scottish athlete ahead of this summer’s Commonwealth Games.
“Programmes like Great Athletes help encourage children to be active, build confidence and enjoy sport while also showing the value of dedication and hard work. I’m sure the visits will leave a lasting impression on everyone taking part.”
