Tomintoul Primary School Nursery inspection report released

The staff and children of Tomintoul Nursery have been praised by inspectors from Care Inspectorate for their excellent care, learning and development of positive interactions across the Nursery.

In their most recent report on the Nursery, Inspectors commended the nursery staff for putting excellent play and learning ideas into practice that catered to the children's needs and interests.

Practitioners are also excellent at involving children and their families, which makes it possible for them to offer individualised care.

Four of the quality indicators focused on during the nursery inspection were how good is our care, play and learning, how good is our setting, how good is our leadership, and how good is our staff and team.

All these indicators were graded as ‘very good’ after the evaluation, which indicates the care and service provided to the children is tremendous and enables positive outcomes for children.

The report also recognised that staff focus on providing relaxed and unhurried mealtimes. Children are able to help set the table and pour drinks for themselves and friends.

Children are encouraged to take part and given the opportunity to bake a snack on one of the days, to help become more self-sufficient.

During mealtimes staff ensure children are safe and foster positive involvement for the best social experiences.

Staff encourage and promote literacy and numeracy skills in a range of engaging ways and the excellent facilities of a wide, open playroom and huge outdoor space with lots of cosy touches were beneficial to the children. Along with receiving instruction, children were also given the opportunity to actively participate in risk assessment while engaging in regular play.

In accordance with best practices, and to find any gaps in the availability of places or resources, the staff team completed an audit of the indoor and outdoor areas.

Everyone working in the nursery was inspired and encouraged by the manager to take the initiative and feel comfortable making improvements. They encouraged staff members to have high hopes and self-assurance in their ability to help children and families realise their full potential. Families and children played a significant role in the service's development as well.

Children at Tomintoul benefit from having staff that are joyful, devoted, and passionate about giving them high-quality care and assistance.

Moray Council’s Chief Education Officer, Vivienne Cross, said: “This report is an outstanding testament to the dedication of the staff at Tomintoul Nursery, particular the Nursery Manager, who is highlighted as being inspiring and encouraging of the whole staff team. I congratulate the staff for providing excellent care and nurturing positive interactions among the children, it’s a great achievement to see that being recognised by Inspectors.”
