Trading Standards advise retailers to meet registration deadline

THE deadline for retailers of e-cigarettes and nicotine vapour products to register their business is just weeks away.

Moray Council’s Trading Standards team is advising all businesses within Moray which sell these products that they need to complete their registration before 1 October, to comply with legislation introduced earlier this year.

Retailers already registered to sell tobacco, and which also sell nicotine vapour products (NVPs) should change their registration to include NVPs, if they haven’t already.

Since April 2017, it’s been illegal to sell NVPs to anyone under 18, or purchase them on behalf of someone under 18. Unauthorised persons under the age of 18 are also banned from selling these products.

Retailers will also need to have a documented age verification policy for sales of tobacco and NVPs, and only sell e-cigarettes and refills which have updated labelling to include health warnings. Cigarettes and loose tobacco should be in plain packs, display relevant health warnings and be a minimum of 20 cigarettes or 30g of tobacco.
