Two major planning application notices considered by Moray Council

ADVANCED notice of two major planning applications set to be submitted to Moray Council was considered today.

Proposal of Application Notices (PAN) have been received by the local authority for development of land west of Glenrothes Distillery, on behalf of the Edrington Group, and a housing development in Cullen, on behalf of Morlich Homes.

It’s been indicated that proposed work at the distillery complex could see 21 warehouses built, alongside the creation of wetland, suds ponds, roads and a tree nursery. The 68.5 hectare site is party covered by the Spey Valley Special Landscape Area designation and, due to the scale of the proposals, requires public engagement with the local community.

Meanwhile in Cullen, the Seafield Road site identified in the PAN extends to approximately 3.4 hectares, covering the R1 Seafield Cullen designation in the council’s Local Development Plan. This site has an indicative capacity of 55 homes, and the applicant proposes to consult with the Cullen and Deskford Community Council.

Chair of Moray Council’s Planning and Regulatory Services Committee, Cllr David Bremner, said: “It’s encouraging to see major developments being considered for investment. Like all proposals, they’ll be considered on their individual merits by the planning committee once the applications have been received.”
