Views sought on new cemetery for Elgin

A site has been identified for a new cemetery in Elgin and Moray Council is inviting residents to give feedback on the plan.

The local authority submitted a proposal of application notice (PAN) to build the cemetery on a 6.6 hectare area of land to the east of Linkwood Farm, Barmuckity.

Following initial scrutiny by Moray Council’s Planning and Regulatory Services Committee, the public is being invited to have their say on the proposals.

Information sessions will be held in New Elgin & Ashgrove Hall at Land Street, New Elgin, on Tuesday 24 October and Tuesday 28 November, between 2pm and 6.30pm.

Consultations will also be carried out with community councils.

Depute chair of the Planning and Regulatory Services Committee, Cllr Marc Macrae, said: “This is a great opportunity for residents to tell us what they think about this proposal for a new cemetery in Elgin.

“The council recognises that cemetery provision must be done with the utmost sensitivity and care, and feedback from residents will help to ensure our plans are shaped properly.”
