Work begins on Kingston coastal protection plan
Work on a plan designed to manage coastal erosion in Kingston is to begin on Monday 10 February 2025.
The project, which is being funded by the Scottish Government, will see a 50cm high shingle bank built between Lein Car Park on the west side of the village, and the main shingle ridge at the lagoon on the east side. Work is expected to take around two weeks.
Lorries will move between Spey Bay Golf Club, Spey Bay Recycling Centre (Dallachy), and Beach Road, Kingston. A detailed traffic plan has been drawn up to ensure construction vehicles avoid school drop-off and collection times at Mosstodloch Primary School.
Kingston is among the first areas of focus for the council’s wider Coastal Adaptation Plan, which has been developed for the entire Moray coastline.
Chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Services Committee, Cllr Marc Macrae, said: “This project – which has involved heavy input from the community - is an important step towards ensuring Kingston's resilience against the impacts of coastal erosion.
“There may be a relatively minor amount of disruption in the area for the duration of the works but I’m sure locals will join me in welcoming this phase of the enhancing of our coastal defences."
