Elgin Academy shortlisted for Scottish School Food Award

Elgin Academy has been shortlisted for a prestigious national honour at the annual Scottish School Food Awards.

The school’s Home Economics department has been shortlisted in the Hospitality Education category at the event, in recognition of its commitment to farm-to-fork learning and community focused hospitality education.

The awards celebrate schools that prioritise wellbeing, sustainability, healthy living, community collaboration, exceptional foodservice staff and the provision of high quality food and nutrition.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony at Glenalmond College in Perthshire on Friday 20 February.

Cllr Kathleen Robertson, Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, said: “This is fantastic news for Elgin Academy and a real credit to the Home Economics team. It’s clear that they put an enormous amount of effort into giving pupils meaningful experiences around food and hospitality, and it’s great to see that recognised.”

Head teacher Neil Johnson added: “I’m absolutely delighted for the department. They work incredibly hard to give our young people brilliant opportunities such as the Baxters Soup Challenge, a Barista training programme and the school’s Farmers’ Market. They bring food education to life in such a practical, engaging way – and I know the pupils would agree with this – so it’s fantastic to see that acknowledged.”
