Moray school winter holiday arrangements
Moray Council has confirmed the school winter holiday dates remain the same as previously advised.
Schools will close on Friday 18 December 2020 and re-open to staff and pupils on Tuesday 5 January 2021.
The announcement follows consideration by the Scottish Government of extending the festive break. It has since been delegated to local authorities to agree on a local approach after the Scottish Government opted not to make a change nationally.
Head of Education at Moray Council, Vivienne Cross, says the decision for Moray schools to continue as planned is based on a number of factors.
“We’re mindful of the potential impact on families to arrange childcare after the planned holidays and the implications for staff to prepare for additional days of remote learning in the new year. We’re also conscious of continuing with as little disruption as possible for pupils, particularly for senior phase pupils and staff with the demand for evidence assessments.
“Moray is also currently well positioned in protection level one with a low number of positive coronavirus cases. As long as our residents take care over the festive season to minimise their own risk of contracting covid-19 we believe we’re in a good position to return as planned in the new year.”
