Second phase of Moray Council’s polling place review underway
Moray Council has today (Monday 7 July) published the second phase of its regular polling place review.
Following feedback from the phase one consultation, and taking into consideration guidance from the Electoral Commission, the local authority has amended proposals and is looking for the views of the community once again. Responses to the first round of consultation can be found here. There were 56 responses in total with comments ranging from the size and suitability of the venues currently used to the distance travelled to vote.
Residents have until 1 August 2025 to respond to the amended proposals, which are split into options for each council ward. Full options and how to respond can be found here.
Suggestions included moving polling places out of schools where possible and moving voters to polling places closer to their address. This is not always possible due to unsuitable alternative venues but will be considered if any become available.
This is not a consultation on ward boundaries, so it’s not possible to move people from one ward to another so they can use a polling station closer to home.
Returning Officer for Moray Council, Karen Greaves BEM, said: “Thank you to everyone who responded to the first consultation on polling places, the feedback was constructive and has led to these amended proposals being brought forward. We’d appreciate as many residents as possible getting involved in this next phase of consultation before we approve any changes to come into effect from September this year.”
The survey can be completed online here until 1 August 2025.
